LAST FALL I HAD the privilege of speaking at a women’s leadership conference where Gloria Steinem was the keynote. When asked about whether the feminist movement was over, she softly replied: “I don’t know why women aren’t more angry these days . . . because we still have so much to be angry about.”

As I scanned the crowd of more than 3,000 executives—women who were college educated, sitting on boards, and running multimillion-dollar companies—it was easy to wonder how a room full of successful alpha-femmes could possibly be angry. (Okay, aside from being judged as indirect, competitive, and emotional.)
