Teaching Storytelling

The best measure of success for a storytelling workshop is not some encyclopedic grasp of story theory but a significant increase in the number and quality of stories found and told posttraining. For this reason, it doesn’t make sense to teach storytelling without first addressing self-censorship. High performers who aren’t keen to embrace vulnerability and risk anxieties can tend to narrow their story experiments to safe bets and safety nets and forfeit the opportunity to experience the emotional impact of telling edgier stories with more contrast and self-disclosure.
