HOW TO FIND EMPATHIC LEADERS
Finding leadership empathy is not easy. As with the other leadership attributes, we use a multipronged approach, relying on different assessment techniques and data points before reaching a conclusion.
The first technique we use is 360-degree feedback. We talk to individuals who know the candidate well: colleagues, former bosses, subordinates, peers. People like to discuss empathy, so it's relatively easy to solicit information about this topic.
The key is to ask questions that touch on a candidate's ability to develop social connections and then to probe any unclear remarks. With this in mind, here are some of the kinds of questions we ask during a 360-degree review:
