Whenever we are called on to assist an organization in identifying its top talent, one leadership competency seems to pop up again and again: innovative thinking. Especially in a tough economy, this quality is always high on any group's wish list. Innovative ability might also be the single aspect of leadership that organizations tell us is most difficult to find. “Is the next Steve Jobs already working for us? Can you help us figure out who that person is?” they often ask.
