Introduction

My first introduction to blogging was at a media history conference in California nearly a decade ago. On the first morning of the conference, I was walking through the host university’s campus, admiring the brilliantly clear sky and the beautiful orange trees, on a hunt to find breakfast when I came across another delegate sitting cross-legged on a stone bench tapping away at his laptop. Having exchanged greetings and enquiries about the breakfast (he didn’t know where it was arranged either), I made some passing comment about him desperately trying to finish his paper.
