As the world of technology becomes ever more abstracted, in some ways it starts to resemble what Hollywood thinks it’s supposed to look like. In a way, it’s a bit of the sci-fi effect, that is, it’s pretty well established that the greatest prophets of our time are sci-fi writers. They have amongst them predicted, with uncanny accuracy, every technological development (and their side effects) in the last few decades, and quite clearly in coming ones as well.
Of course, another way to look at it is simply that their ideas have influenced, and continue to influence, generations of bright, young kids who grow up to become tech entrepreneurs.
