Why write this book?
I wrote this book assuming that telling readers about me, my motivations, my perspective, my personality, and the drivers that shaped my career might make the history of software development more understandable and, I hope, more enjoyable.
After family, seeking adventures—career and personal—has been central to my life. Over the course of this book, I’ve conveyed a bit about who I am and the overall purpose behind my work.
To revisit my goals for this book:
Document the evolution and revolution of software methods, methodologies, and mindsets.
Remember and honor the pioneers of software development.
Prepare for the future, by learning from the past.
