Modeling and Characterization
In this chapter, following on from Chapter 3, some more of the important tools used by the mineral process engineer are briefly described. Under modeling is included computer simulation for circuit design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) for equipment design, and design of experiments (DOE) for empirical model building. Under characterization, geometallurgy and applied mineralogy are the topics; another characterization tool, surface analysis, is covered in Chapter 12.
