3.1 Introduction

Electric machines are necessary for electric power generation. Wind energy is captured by the wind turbine, which acts as the prime mover of the wind generator. Although induction machines are mostly used as wind generators, synchronous machines are also used as wind generators, especially for variable speed operation.
