Wind Generators
5.1 Introduction
Wind energy conversion systems (WECSs) have become a focal point in the research of renewable energy sources. A wind generator (WG) is a device that generates electrical power from wind energy. Induction generators are mostly used as wind generators. However, synchronous generators can also be used as wind generators. According to rotational speed, there are two types of wind generator systems: (1) fixed speed; and (2) variable speed. This chapter describes the wind generator systems, their characteristics, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system, and the method of total efficiency calculation of wind generators.
