Synopsis
Add a resource record to a zone, configure zone transfer, convert a zone, create a new zone, create a subdomain, display type of zone, enable dynamic updates, force a zone transfer, and modify a resource record.
Procedures
Administration of DNS zones is performed primarily from the DNS console (see DNS for general information about this tool). This section covers specific tasks associated with zones and zone files. For general tasks relating to DNS servers, see DNS server in this chapter. For other general tasks relating to setting up DNS on your network, see DNS in this chapter.
The procedures assume that you have opened the DNS console by:

Add a Resource Record to a Zone
You can manually create resource records in a zone as follows:
Right-click on a zone → <specify> |
where <specify> can be the following:
- New Host
Creates an A record for a host. (This option is only available for forward-lookup zones.) You can optionally create an associated PTR record simultaneously.
- New Pointer
Creates a PTR record for a host. (This option is only available for reverse-lookup zones.)
- New Alias
Creates a CNAME record to map an alias to a host.
- New Mail Exchanger
Creates an MX record for an SMTP mail forwarding host.
- Other New Records
Lets you create any type of resource record (use this mainly to create NS records).
