Configure digital IDs for one or more email accounts

You can theoretically use the same digital ID for several different email accounts. However, many email clients only recognize the first email address in the certificate, which is a potential problem. Ideally you should obtain a certificate for each account. After the certificates are installed on your computer (through the web browser), you can assign them to individual accounts.

Assign a certificate to an account

You assign a certificate to an email account through the account’s properties. Use the following procedure to assign certificates to accounts in Outlook Express:

  1. In Outlook Express choose Tools Accounts.

  2. Select an account and click Properties.

  3. Click the Security tab.

  4. Under Encrypting Preferences, click Select, choose the certificate you want to use with the account, and click OK. Click OK again and then Close to finish.
