One Library: Multiple Folders and Locations
Where libraries differ and improve upon My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, etc. is that each library can include physical folders from multiple locations. Libraries are not single locations; they are a grouping of shortcuts to one or multiple physical locations of the same content type. This gives you a single “bucket” for a content type, like the Pictures library, but you can include other locations besides the default storage location on your computer for pictures; this is typically a username folder, like C:\Users\Kevin\Pictures, and Public Pictures, like C:\Users\Public\Pictures.
