In this section, we'll introduce you to IM basics, some of the more popular IM programs, and tips for using them with each other.
Instant messaging is great for short quick messages between people when they are both online at the same time. It can also be used for real-time communication with audio and video. With the surge in use of existing social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn plus upcoming ones from Google and possibly Microsoft, instant messaging can tie into those, too.
