4.12. Assign a Different Letter to a Disk Drive

You can assign a different drive letter to any hard disk, disk partition, CD or DVD drive, or removable drive attached to your computer.

When you installed Windows 7 on your computer, it surveyed all the disk drives on your system and assigned drive letters to each disk. For example, the drive where Windows is installed is probably drive C, your CD or DVD drive might be drive D, and if you have Flash drive or memory card slots on your PC, they were assigned letters beginning with E.

There may be times when you need or want to change the default drive letters. For example, some programs require a floppy disk drive for certain actions, and it is a rare PC that comes with a floppy drive these days. ...
