Printing Content from a Windows 8 App

Printing content from a standard desktop application works the same in Windows 8 as in previous versions of Windows. You simply choose File ⇒ Print. But printing a file from a Windows 8 app works differently. Instead of choosing a print command from the app itself, you print using the Charms bar. Selecting the Devices charm provides access to your printer and allows you to configure the various settings to determine the format, quality, and other attributes for your printed document. You can print from a variety of Windows 8 apps, including Mail, Photos, Maps, and Internet Explorer. Mail is used for this example, but the process is the same across all Windows 8 apps. This task explains how to print from a Windows 8 app.

1 Open Mail: Make sure your printer is turned on. This example uses Mail. Open Mail by clicking its Start screen tile.

2 Select a message: Click an e-mail message to print.

3 Access the Charms bar: Move your mouse to the lower right-hot corner to display the Charms bar. Click the Devices charm.
