Enabling BitLocker on a System Without a TPM
If your PC doesn’t have a TPM chip, you can still use BitLocker. In this case, however, you’ll be forced to jump an extra hurdle when you start your computer. This hurdle will either be an extra password that you must enter or a USB flash drive that you must insert. Only by doing this will Windows 8 decrypt the drive and enable you to work with your computer in the normal way.
First you need to configure Windows 8 to allow BitLocker on a system without a TPM. Here’s how it’s done:
1. At the Start screen, type gpedit.msc and then press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
