Common Types of Fraud

You are certain to run into many categories of online fraud, of which classic “phishing” is just one. We’ll list a few of them. Regardless of the con, the criminals are after one of the following things:

Your personal and financial information—You’ll give it to them, and they’ll use it to go on a spending spree, or will sell it to other criminals.

Your money—You’ll send them money, and get nothing in return.

Your computer—You’ll follow a link to a bogus website, or even a legitimate website that’s been hacked. Your computer will get infected with a virus just by viewing the web page, in what’s called a drive-by attack.
