20.1 Finding the Proper Connection String with ConnectionStrings.com
Modern development environments like Visual Studio 2005 boost productivity with features such as code completion; however, when it comes to cobbling together data-source connection strings, we’re basically left to our own devices. When confronted with the task of trying to remember the connection string for a rarely used data source, we typically have to fall back on productivity-zapping options like digging through old projects, combing through old browser bookmarks, or turning to Google.
Fortunately, there’s a better resource on the Web: ConnectionStrings.com. The site’s self-described purpose is to “provide an easy reference for connection strings.” Finding the correct connection string for any data source requires only a few clicks of the mouse. The parameters are well documented, and plenty of tips are offered.
