Windows Me and Windows 98 Second Edition include WMI as a core component of the operating system. Running WMI on these systems, therefore, requires no special installation process. In contrast, the other platforms do not come with WMI by default; to use it, you need to download the latest version (v1.5) from Microsoft’s web site. Currently, the relevant files can be found under the Windows Development section of the MSDN downloads web site.
