Setting up the WM9 Player, Encoder, Server, and SDK

Microsoft recommends that you install the Windows Media 9 Series components on machines running Microsoft XP (excluding the Server piece). That being said, I have installed and run the relevant components on Windows 2000 computers without mishap. Windows 98SE and ME are officially supported, but I have not thoroughly tested WM9 in these environments and would recommend neither for resource-intensive media handling on general principles.
