Chapter 11. Certificate Validation
Certificate validation ensures that the certificate’s information is authentic, the certificate can be used only for its intended purposes, and the certificate is trusted. The certificate is also verified to be time-valid and not revoked.
The Windows operating system automatically performs certificate validation and repeats the validation process for each certificate in a certificate chain until it reaches the root certification authority (CA). The certificate chaining engine within Windows performs the validation testing.
