In late 2005, Microsoft acquired a small Ottawa-based company named Alacris. The key software included in this acquisition was a registration authority then known as Alacris idNexus.
The product was initially rebranded as Certificate Lifecycle Manager (CLM). Just before its official launch in 2007, the product was merged with Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS) 2003 to become a suite of products known as Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007.
The former MIIS product is now referred to as Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) 2007 Metadirectory Services.
