Everyone is talking about mobility and the new, flexible, modern work style—but what technology is used behind the scenes? One very famous solution is the virtual desktop infrastructure, or VDI. In a Microsoft world, VDI is based on Remote Desktop Services (RDS), previously known as Terminal Services. RDS provides technologies that enable users to access Windows-based programs installed on a Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) server. These technologies also enable users to access the full Windows desktop, assign virtual machines to users, or have RDS dynamically assign an available virtual machine to a user upon connection.
