Backing Up and Restoring Databases by Using the SQL Server 2005 Tools
Besides the content and configurations databases, WSS 3.0 also has databases in SQL Server for search and indexing. These databases can be backed up with SharePoint Central Administration.
However, you should also have a backup plan for SQL Server in case a disaster occurs, or if the SharePoint backups fail. This plan should back up all the databases, not only the WSS 3.0 databases. No matter what option you choose (full, differential, transaction logs backup), the backups should be tested after they are created.
