Users and Permissions
Depending on your organization’s needs, SharePoint site access can widely vary. Some organizations may leave all sites open to all users, some may restrict content to specific sites, or some may permit access to sites only by team members. The Site Collection Administrators role should be limited to very experienced SharePoint administrators because the role can perform any available action within a site collection.
The following permission levels are provided by default in WSS 3.0: Full Control, Design, Contribute, Read, and Limited Access.
