Make the Connection

Once Remote Desktop is on at the host computer, you can connect to it from another computer. In the following scenario, you’ll connect to a computer remotely that is on your own local network, in the same building or home. Later, you’ll learn how to connect through a VPN.

Windows Firewall and Remote Desktop Connections

You need to know how to verify whether Windows Firewall will allow Remote Desktop. By default, Windows Firewall does not allow these connections unless you specifically allow them. To verify Windows Firewall is configured correctly, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, and under Security, click Allow A Program Through Windows Firewall.
