Understanding Connection Types
Windows Vista supports both outgoing and incoming network connections. For outgoing connections, the Windows Vista computer acts as a client that connects to a remote computer, server, or network to access remote resources. For incoming connections, Windows Vista acts as a server to allow other computers to connect to the computer and access resources on it.
