Chapter 8: Creating Your Media Library with Windows Media Player
Creating and Managing Playlists
Both the Navigation Pane and the List Pane have features for working with playlists.
A playlist is a list of media files that you want to play together. Although you can mix
and match media types as you see fit, you’ll usually want to have separate playlists
for pictures, music, and videos.
Creating and using playlists
At the far right of the Address toolbar is the Show/Hide List Pane button. Click this
button to display your current playlist, where you can drag items to the list to add
them. Click this button again to close the current playlist view. You can work with
playlists in a variety of ways:
To add an album, a stack, or an individual item as the only item on the Now
Playing list, right-click it and select Play.
To add an album, a stack, or an individual item to the Now Playing list, right-
click it, point to Add To, and then select Now Playing.
To add an album, a stack, or an individual item to an existing playlist, right-click
it, point to Add To, and then select the playlist to which it should be added.
To add an album, a stack, or an individual item to a new playlist, right-click it
and then select Add to ‘Untitled Playlist.’
Using the Navigation Pane, you can create a playlist by completing these steps:
1. Click Playlist and then click Create Playlist.
2. Type the name of the playlist and then press Enter.
3. The playlist will then be displayed for editing and viewing in the List Pane. Drag
and drop files onto the list.
4. To change the order of individual items on the list, click an item and then drag
up or down as appropriate.
5. To change the order of a group of files on the list, select the items and then drag
up or down as appropriate.
Using the Navigation Pane, you can play items in a playlist by clicking the playlist
and then pressing the Play button on the Controls toolbar. Alternatively, you can
right-click the playlist and then select Play.
Editing playlists
Using the Navigation Pane, you can edit a playlist by completing these steps:
1. Click Playlist and then click the playlist you want to work with.
2. Drag and drop files onto the list.
