Data Protection

Data protection is essential to wireless security. It must be implemented correctly to prevent unauthorized access to the system and the replication or theft of valuable data. The IEEE 802.11i standard security amendment (ratified in June 2004) came about as a result of the inherent weaknesses in the data-protection schemes used up to that time. It stated that for any organization with even minor concerns about network and information security, WPA2 must be in place. Further, unlike SOHO offices, where Wi-Fi Protected Access 2–preshared key mode (WPA2-PSK) is sufficient, larger organizations (or smaller organizations with higher security profiles) should use WPA2 Enterprise.
