Google Android Security

The Android operating system (OS) is built on the Linux open source OS. However, the applications used on Android devices are developed in Java. In particular, Android uses the Dalvik Java platform. Developers typically write their apps in Java and then use the Google Android software development kit (SDK) tools to convert their applications to run on the proprietary Dalvik platform on all Android devices.

The Android security model is based on an open system. As an open system, Android allows owners to download applications and software from any website. Therefore, to fully benefit from Android’s security model, it is up to the owner to vet the trustworthiness of any download’s source.
