Abstract

Sending data through a wireless medium is very common these days. The wireless interface is open and available to both authorized and unauthorized users because of the broadcast nature of radio propagation. It is important to ensure that confidential data is only accessed by authorized individuals and not intruders. Security should be the main consideration when deploying wireless networks to monitor applications in hostile unsupervised situations. Wireless security protects a Wi-Fi network from illegal access. It remains difficult to ensure the security of data transfer over wireless networks. At the physical layer of a wireless network, jamming and eavesdropping are two common assaults. Military, sensor node tracking, industry, health applications, home applications, and hybrid networks are the main application areas for wireless networks. All these applications require the security and privacy of data because it contains sensitive data. The most important requirement for healthcare applications is security when it comes to protecting patient privacy. This chapter reviews security risks in wireless networks, including needs, and categories, such as attacks, vulnerabilities, and threats towards healthcare applications.
