At the atomic level, the most basic element you can format in a document is text — letters, numbers, and characters. You can format text to be bold, underlined, italicized, small or large, in different fonts or colors, and all sorts of pretty and distracting attributes. Word gives you a magnificent amount of control over the appearance of your text.
