Ben had been avoiding the call from Atlanta all week. When the 678 area code appeared in his cell phone, he ignored it. Then it popped up on the hotel reservation desk, and he let the call go to voicemail. Finally, his aunt Shirley, seated across from him on the porch on a quiet Friday evening, picked up his ringing phone, answered it, and handed it to him, saying simply, “Phone for you, sweetie.”
