Greek mythology often leaves the impression that the godly inhabitants of Mt. Olympus were wild, unpredictable, and often caused great suffering. However it is now becoming apparent that the stories of the Olympians provide us with a mirror, having reflections that are uncommonly accurate in its depictions of basic human emotions. When we become so overwhelmed by an emotion such as anger, hatred, or passion like the Olympians we may slip out of our rational brain and back into the emotional realm of our most basic animal instincts.
