Abstract
Chapter 3 examines what may be the biggest obstacle to the creation of a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program, which is the tendency of senior management to fall victim to various common rationalizations, objections, and denials (RODs). A commonly stated reason for not pursuing such a program is the fear that employees will be frightened by the mere discussion of the subject. Other arguments range from the costs involved to the organization’s facilities being located in a relatively low-crime area.
