Karate Forms and Organizational Memory

Abstract

Karate students use a number of different techniques to practice and build skills, increase speed, and improve reaction time. Another key component of martial art training is the use of forms. Forms, or kata, give students a chance to repeatedly practice the exact sequence of moves, both blocks and attacks, to build their body's muscle memory so that the response become instinct, eliminating reaction time for a faster riposte or counterstrike.
