One of the downsides to social media is that it’s very easy to shoot yourself in the foot: a single poorly thought-out or poorly worded tweet, Facebook post or Instagram caption can quickly become a PR disaster. That’s partly because the internet is a perpetual outrage machine packed with people who are desperate to be offended by the slightest thing, but it’s often because businesses made some very basic mistakes.
