The following project was part of a sophomore class assignment at Oregon State University. This three-week poster project, announcing a play for Portland Center Stage, uses various forms of writing to develop ideas and connections throughout the project. This was the third and final project of the term.
The project
Part 1
Students use a word and its opposite as a jumping-off point to write a one-page fiction or non-fiction narrative. (In this case, the word was “play” and the opposite word chosen was “work.”) By developing a concept based on their own writing, students not only take more ownership of content, but also see the power of the written word, while building confidence in their writing abilities.
