Classification

One significant issue hardly addressed by the solutions described above is the need to find documents in a more rigorous and reliable manner than free-text searching can deliver. Often, documents need to be classified in a number of ways. For example, a document could be classified under the year it was created, by its theme and also by its authors.

Directory classification

At best, the use of sub-directory structures offers only a single way to classify documents (and manually crafting alias files in other directories would be tortuous).

Search zones

As already indicated, many free-text search engines are now able to restrict searches to specific elements. It should therefore be relatively simple to create zones for Year, Theme ...
