data content

The element can only contain data, not child elements. Not described by a formal rule, but an informal name for any content model that includes the #PCDATA keyword.

data entity

Non-parsable, non-XML data. see XML Entity. Alternative term for binary entity.

data stream

Term used to describe the processing of a data file, character by character, with the first character in the file heading the stream of input to the application. Some data formats are designed to assist processing in a single direction, including XML, which is why the prolog must precede the document instance (at no point should a parser need to 'rewind' to an earlier point in the file).
