So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
13.2. GIDB METOC Data Integration
In this section we describe the integration of Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) data into the GIDB System.
13.2.1. Background
METOC data is remotely retrieved via Metcast (DII 2001), which is a system for the distribution of METOC data to the navy developed by the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). Metcast is a client/server architecture in which the Metcast server application serves data from a METOC database containing a variety of products, including satellite imagery and model outputs of weather and ocean conditions describing the current and future state of the environment around the globe.
