Introduction

This appendix describes all of the built-in XQuery keywords and operators, listed alphabetically (symbols first) for convenient reference. When a symbol occurs only in the context of others, for example, by occurs only in order by, then its entry may be omitted.

Each expression description begins with the syntax for the expression, followed by an explanation of its behavior, including optional parts and exceptional cases. In the syntax description, user-supplied parts of the expression appear in italics, and use the sequence type syntax described in Appendix A.
