Hannah at Work
Hannah slipped on her shoes, checked her sweater for lint, and grabbed her computer bag before heading out the door, coffee cup in hand. She had a relatively short commute to work, but used the time to listen to the news and give some additional thought to the day ahead.
She had been working as a project manager for four years for Company X, a mid-sized software company. She was consistently praised for good work by her boss. The projects to which she was assigned were all delivered on time, and with customer satisfaction, but her last review during promotion time had gone the same as the year before. She replayed that conversation in her head as she drove.
“Hannah, I'm thrilled with your work this year. Congratulations, you've received a 4 rating!” Allen, her boss, was about 45 years old, and had been at a few other prestigious companies before joining Company X two years earlier. He rarely made eye contact with her as he spoke, glancing at his computer and phone often.
