Failure to Listen
The art of listening is a basic human-relations skill. Many excellent books on the subject can be found in your public library and local book stores. If you read just one, you will improve your competency in this area. Our discussion of the art of listening will be brief and to the point.
Listening requires concentration. Thus, the first step in learning how to listen is to learn how to concentrate. Hearing is a selective process. Most people hear only what they want to hear. Your problem, then, is to listen to what is important and push other sounds to the outer edge of your hearing. There are so many sounds around you that you may not be picking up the ones that are vital to your happiness and success.
