I grew up in Northern California with a grandpa who liked to fish. We’d fish for catfish in the canals and bypasses of the Sacramento River and nearby rice fields. Then we’d drive up to the Sierra Nevadas to fish for trout. It was one of the highlights of my childhood. He wasn’t much for explaining things, but he was a great angler.
