It had been a long few days for Linda Cruse. As she made the long drive back to her home outside London from a sales conference in the north of England, she was tired, bone tired. Not that working long hours were anything new to her. She’d worked long hours for years. She also drank too much, slept too little and felt trapped in her job with no way out.
Suddenly, without any warning, everything went dark. She could see nothing, absolutely nothing. Somehow she managed to pull her car over to the side of the motorway, a feat she later recalled as a small miracle in itself. And there she sat, totally blind, imprisoned by a black void.
In those moments of utter darkness, time stood still and her years ahead flashed before her. What use would she be blind, unable to see … unable to continue in her high-paying sales job. She was a single mother with two children depending on her. Despair washed over her. Then terror. She hadn’t prayed for years, but in that darkest of moments, she surrendered her doubts to the possibility of a higher force. ‘God, if you will give me back my eyesight, I promise that I will find the reason I was born to live and I will live it.’
