5 Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship was a simple idea. Before I started my maker journey, I thought it was something I could easily identify and define. In fact, it was the lack of craftsmanship in my own life that was the real, underlying motivation for getting involved. I’ll never forget the feeling of maker admiration when I attended my first Maker Faire, or the conversation I had with the carpenter in the days after losing my job. These people (both men and women) were craftsmen. They had an approach to their work that nobody—not an employer or an angry customer or a turbulent economy—could take away from them. It was deeply personal and, from my perspective, fulfilling in a way that I had never felt about my work.
