Democratizing funding decisions to grow open source culture

As companies deploy products that depend on free and open source software (FOSS), corporate funding has become both essential and complex. To sustain the open source community, companies need to build infrastructure and create guiding principles to support the people at the heart of open source.

Join us for this Case Study with Indeed open source lead Duane O’Brien and open source program manager Jade Applegate to to learn how Indeed developed the FOSS Contributor Fund framework to drive participation in the open source community by providing wider visibility into important projects and democratizing funding for those projects. You’ll discover how a FOSS Contributor Fund can give your organization insight into which open source projects are important to support, help you develop connections with the maintainers of FOSS dependencies, and identify new open source advocates and supporters—all while encouraging open source participation among your employees. In just an hour, you’ll get a detailed account of the framework, find out how Indeed has already distributed over $400,000 in FOSS Contributor funds, and hear lessons learned from the company's three-year experience with open source advocacy and funding. Plus, you’ll have the chance to ask Duane and Jade your questions.

O'Reilly Case Study sessions explore how organizations have overcome common challenges in business and technology through a series of one-hour interactive events. You’ll engage in a live conversation with experts, sharing your questions and challenges while hearing their unique perspectives, insights, and lessons learned.
