Course description

You finished the Claude Code for Everyone course and can build basic things for yourself. The problem now is that they live on your laptop and nobody else can use them. In this follow-up course with Mark Kashef you’ll learn how to create an internal tool of the kind every team wishes someone would just build. You’ll discover how to plan the way professionals do, connect your tool to the services your team already uses, make it good to look at and use, and turn what you made into a skill—a reusable, shareable unit a colleague can pick up and run without you. A big part of the session is creating, using, and distributing skills so your whole team works from the same playbook, with no software development experience required. By the end of the session, you’ll know how to build a high value solution and put it in your team’s hands.

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code installed and working before class (either the Claude Desktop app or the CLI with an active Claude Pro subscription)
  • Take Claude Code for Everyone (strongly recommended if you have no experience working with Claude Code)

Introduction to the finished app (10 minutes)

  • Presentation and demonstration: The finished internal team tool

The plan is the product (60 minutes)

  • Presentation: Reverse engineering the app back to its plan; the anatomy of a plan Claude Code can execute (scope, milestones, constraints, and a clear definition of done); how to pressure-test a plan before a single line of code gets written
  • Hands-on exercise: Write your own plan; pick your own version of the tool and draft its plan from a provided template
  • Demonstration: The plan to first working slice

Build it for real (80 minutes)

  • Presentation: Connecting to the real world with CLIs and MCPs; why your tool is stuck on your laptop until it can talk to the services you use; connecting through CLIs and MCP connectors; design taste with Claude and Chrome; why so many AI-built tools look rough; testing and polishing
  • Demonstration: Seeing the app read and write real data in Google Workspace
  • Hands-on exercise: Rebuild a core feature

Turn it into a skill and share it with your team (80 minutes)

  • Presentation: What a skill is and why it changes everything for a team; the handoff problem; turning the recurring task inside your app into a skill step-by-step; using the Claude Code guide agent to review your skill and make it sharper; what “good enough to hand off” really looks like; where to keep your skills so your team can always find and reuse them
  • Demonstration: Packaging a workflow into a skill that a teammate can run cold
  • Hands-on exercise: Build and design a skill that works for anyone
